Maze Muncher: classic maze chase game
Three lives, four hunting drones and a maze that changes every level. Arrow keys, WASD, swipe or on-screen arrows.
How to play Maze Muncher
Steer Munch through the corridors and eat all 200-plus pellets to finish a board. The drones leave the centre pen a second apart, so the opening moments are safest. Each of the four glowing orbs turns the drones blue for a shrinking window (seven seconds on level 1, dropping by half a second per level), and eating them in a chain pays 250, 500, 1,000 and 2,000 points. Lose all three lives and the run ends; your best score is stored on this device.
What changes as levels rise
- Movement speed increases every level up to level 11, then holds.
- Power orb duration shrinks until it is barely two seconds.
- The bonus chip in the middle of each board is worth 300 points plus 100 per level.
- Mazes are seeded per level, so level 4 is always the same layout: learn it.
The design nods to the original 1980 arcade game: in the real thing the ghosts also have four personalities, which we document in how pacman ghosts chase you, and the real frightened-time table shrinks in a similar way (see pacman power pellets). Frequently asked questions
How many levels does Maze Muncher have?
There is no cap. Speed stops rising at level 11, so from there it becomes a test of consistency.
Can drones pass through each other?
Yes. Only collisions between Munch and a drone matter.
What happens when I eat a drone?
It turns into a pair of eyes, returns to the pen, waits a second and comes back at normal speed.
